Armed men rob jewellery shop employees of 2 kg gold at Simon Bolivar Marg, flee

A 26-year-old man working with a jewellery shop and his co-worker were held at gunpoint and robbed of nearly 2 kg of gold at Simon Bolivar Marg in Lutyens’ Delhi, Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The accused were two men on bikes. Police have caught two suspects in the case.

The complainant, Shashikant Mishra, told police that he has been working with Bhatia Sons Jewellers in Chandni Chowk for the past seven-eight years. He said he often takes jewellery boxes and pieces to clients across Delhi.

On Tuesday around 2 pm, he left his office with his co-worker Rakesh Swami on a scooter.

“We had 1.7-2 kg of gold jewellery with us and went to see a client in Sarojini Nagar. They didn’t like the pieces so we packed the items. We were on our way back to the office when a two-wheeler came from behind and hit us. This was around 3.20 pm. The two men sitting on the vehicle were of strong build and were wearing helmets. They took off their helmets and threatened us at gunpoint. They asked for our bag. We got scared… they robbed our bags and went towards Dhaula Kuan…,” said Mishra.

The complainant then called police and his employer from the spot.

DCP (New Delhi) Pranav Tayal said, “The two men were stopped at SB Marg, and their bag containing 1,700-1,800 gms of gold jewellery was robbed by two men who came on another two-wheeler. A case of robbery under relevant sections was registered. We have caught two suspects in the case and recovered the robbed jewellery.”
