Atishi makes ‘surprise inspection’ of MCD school, orders action against teachers found absent

After inspecting an MCD school in Sangam Vihar during which two teachers were found to be absent without informing the principal, and irregularities found in data related to Mission Buniyaad, Education Minister Atishi has directed officials to take action against the “negligent teachers and staff” and submit an action taken report.

The minister conducted a “surprise inspection” of the MCD school in Sangam Vihar J-Block on Wednesday, according to a communication from her office. During the inspection, a class was found to be without a teacher, and the principal did not know about the absence. An inspection of all classes showed that another teacher was absent without informing the principal.

The communication added that there were teachers at the school who had been consistently absent for several months. Atishi has directed officials to take departmental action against them.

The Minister also found that there were irregularities in data related to the Mission Buniyaad programme, which focuses on foundational reading, writing and numeracy.

As per the communication from her office, Atishi also told the school administration that it is the principal’s duty to oversee teachers, timetables, academic plans, and school matters, and that the teachers’ absence during school hours without the principal’s knowledge reflects insensitivity towards children.

Atishi said, “In education matters, the AAP government follows a zero-tolerance policy in MCD schools. We aim to provide excellent education to every child in MCD schools. In this regard, no negligence in children’s education will be tolerated, and officials must take this seriously. They must ensure that all children in MCD schools receive the education they rightfully deserve.”
