Prakash Raj reacts after facing backlash for viral tweet on Chandrayaan 3: ‘Hate only sees hate’

A recent post by Prakash Raj on X, formely known as Twitter, has ignited a wave of outrage across the platform. The actor in a tweet took a sarcastic jab at India’s Moon Mission Chandrayaan 3, prompting criticism from users who found his remark insensitive and derogatory. Many users condemned him for confusing political trolling with national matters.

Reacting to the controversy, he tweeted:

In his tweet, Prakash shared a cartoon portraying a man in a vest and lungi pouring tea, subtly mocking the Vikram Lander of the Chandrayaan 3 mission. He wrote, “BREAKING NEWS:- First picture coming from the Moon by #VikramLander Wowww #justasking.”

However, his tweet swiftly triggered a defense of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) scientists and their dedication. A user highlighted the distinction between disagreeing with someone and harbouring negativity toward one’s own country. He wrote, “There is a difference between hating someone and hating your country. So sad to see this state of yours!” Clarifying that Chandrayaan 3 is an ISRO mission, and not associated with any political party, another user criticised the actor and wrote, “Prakash ji, this Chandryan mission is from ISRO not BJP. If it gets succeed, it’s for India not for any party. Why you want this mission to fail? BJP is just a ruling party. It will go one day. But, ISRO will remain for years and will make us proud.  In search of truth, you’re forgetting basic nationalism. India’s failure shouldn’t be a victory. Keep ISRO aside from this political hate.”

Expressing dismay, another individual wrote, “You have stooped so low.. feel ashamed that you are a fellow countryman !! I am proud of ISRO !! Jai Hind.” Criticising the tweet’s unnecessary nature, another social media user wrote, “It was unnecessary. Some things are far above political ideology. Look you are melting faster than the ice. Wishing you a speedy recovery.”

Prakash Raj is known for his frequent criticism of the ruling party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He launched his active political engagement with the hashtag #justasking on social media following the assassination of his friend and journalist Gauri Lankesh in September 2017. While he contested as an independent candidate for the Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha constituency in the 2019 Indian general election, he suffered defeat. In a 2019 interview with PTI, he asserted his decision to abstain from joining any political party. He said, “I cannot stay in any party for more than three months.”
