The Supreme Court on Friday granted protection from arrest to two authors of a write-up in the wake of the Adani-Hindenburg issue on the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) portal which claims to provide “news on corruption and organised crime”.
The duo — Ravi Nair and Anand Mangnale — had been summoned by Gujarat Police in connection with the write-up to appear for a preliminary inquiry.
Granting them interim relief, a bench of Justices B R Gavai and P K Mishra also sought the response of the Gujarat police.

Initially, the bench sought to know why they had directly approached the SC. Senior Advocate Indira Jaising who appeared for the authors contended that the question is under what authority of law were the notices issued by the police.
“The notice is completely without jurisdiction. They cannot be driven to go to that place,” she said.

Jaisingh said the notices were issued “on the basis of an investor’s application” but the applicants had not been provided with a copy of it.
