Four arrested in Agartala; drugs, pistol and vehicles seized

Tripura Police arrested four persons on Friday after it busted a gang allegedly caught in possession of illegal firearms, contraband drugs and some vehicles from one of their houses in Agartala.

The four arrested were identified as Bhibhanto Debbarma (37), Jayanta Debnath (38), Raju Saha (37) and Rabindra Debbarma (32).

Acting on a tip-off, a team of police raided Bhibhanto’s home near Agartala Town Hall, close to Palace Compound under East Agartala Police Station.

During the raid, the police recovered eight packets of heroin, one 9 mm pistol with 30 rounds, Rs 13,000 in cash, one card swiping machine, a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), and three motorcycles, nine mobile phones from his house.

“We will interrogate them to know from where they got the drugs and the pistol. We raided Bhibanto’s house following a tip-off. We found the rest three persons at his home,” said West SP Kiran Kumar.

Asked if they could be involved in some bigger plot, the official said all aspects were being examined.

The move comes weeks after West Tripura Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar admitted to rise in thefts and petty crimes in Agartala city and said steps were being taken to ensure such crimes are brought down.
