Emotional Novak Djokovic breaks down in tears during celebration of US Open win with Serbia basketball team

Novak Djokovic was overcome with emotion after he received a warm welcome in his hometown of Belgrade, following his victory at the US Open.

The 36-year-old tennis star was greeted by thousands of fans near Belgrade’s city hall during a celebration for members of the Serbian national basketball team and the tennis star himself.

Djokovic was seen on a big screen as he made a surprise appearance on the balcony as thousands of fans gathered in the Serbian capital on Tuesday to celebrate the country’s national basketball team winning the silver medal at the FIBA World Cup.

Djokovic’s win was a huge moment for Serbia, and it was clear that the people of Belgrade were proud of their hometown hero. The scenes were truly heartwarming, and they showed the love and support that his countrymen have for Djokovic.

Djokovic then addressed the crowd from the balcony and thanked those in attendance before breaking down.  He was subsequently consoled by Serbian basketball star Nikola Milutinov.

Djokovic is now the clear favorite to win the next Grand Slam tournament.

Earlier, Djokovic won his 24th Slam singles title Sunday by beating Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 7-6 (5), 6-3 in the U.S. Open final.

Djokovic’s U.S. Open championship gives him 24 career Grand Slam singles titles, adding to the record he already held for the most by a man in tennis history.
