Samsung is reported to have opted for a 5x telephoto lens on its upcoming Galaxy S24 Ultra similar to the one found on the newly announced iPhone 15 Pro Max. According to a tweet by the prominent leakster IceUniverse on X (previously known as Twitter), the Galaxy S24 Ultra will feature a 50 MP telephoto lens with support for 5x optical zoom.
The report also highlights that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will continue to include two separate zoom lenses with a 10 MP sensor with 3x optical zooming capability and a high-resolution 50 MP sensor with support for 5x optical zoom.

Currently, on the Galaxy S23 Ultra (review), there is a 10 MP 3x telephoto lens and a secondary 10 MP periscope zoom lens with support for 10x optical zooming capability. The new high-resolution telephoto lens on the Galaxy S24 Ultra has a higher resolution, and the company is likely to offer 10x lossless zoom via in-sensor zooming technology and is also expected to include a 100x hybrid zooming capability, similar to the current flagship.
Samsung currently offers 5x hybrid zoom on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. However, due to the lower resolution 10 MP sensor, it does not offer much clarity, especially when compared to the primary camera and the company might be able to fix the same by offering a high-resolution 5x telephoto lens.

Samsung is speculated to announce its next set of Galaxy S series non-foldable flagships in early 2024. According to several reports, the company is likely to launch the Galaxy S24 series in two variants, powered by either the Exynos 2400 or the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC.
