Vadodara set to get its first Vande Bharat train connecting Hapa in Jamnagar: BJP MP

BJP MP Ranjan Bhatt said on Saturday that the Railways Ministry is set to formally announce a new Vande Bharat train that will connect Vadodara to Hapa in Jamnagar.

Bhatt was speaking in the ongoing series of discussions titled ‘Reimaging Vadodara’, led by the chief whip of Gujarat government and Raopura MLA Balkrishna Shukla, as part of which senior leaders across political parties and residents met on Saturday to “share ideas” to reinvent the city.

Bhatt said, “People have expressed a wish that Vadodara should get Vande Bharat trains that originate from the city… I had put forth the request that Vadodara should have two Vande Bharat trains connecting Hapa and Kota in Jamnagar. It gives me immense pleasure to say that in the next phase of Vande Bharat inaugurations, Vadodara is set to get its first Vande Bharat train connecting Hapa.”

Among those who shared thoughts at the two-hour long discussion held at a city hotel were former BJP MLA Jitendra Sukhadia, former Vadodara Congress mayors Dr Rajendrasinh Rathod and Ranjit Chavan as well as the current elected members of the BJP.

Sources said that while Shukla had extended an invitation to Congress leaders, none of the sitting corporators attended the event owing to a “prohibitory order” by the party.

At the event, former Congress corporator Chirag Zaveri said that Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) must implement town planning schemes to develop the city. Former BJP MLA Jitendra Sukhadia alleged “lack of efforts” in implementing the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. “Our (VMC) officials and leaders went to Indore to study the Swachh model but nothing has been done on the ground. They should feel accountable for it… There can be no excuse for this kind of (untidy city), especially when Surat and Ahmedabad are clean,” he said.

Shukla, who is set to hold the third symposium of the series in Vadodara next week, said, “‘Team Vadodara’ is a non-political platform for leaders, citizens, experts and well-wishers of Vadodara to join hands and exchange ideas… We have issues at hand… and it is necessary to have a dialogue about the way forward for Vadodara.”
