UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Exam 2024: Applications open

UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Exam 2024: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) today opened the registration window for the Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Examination, 2024. Interested and eligible candidates can apply at the official website— upsc.gov.in. The last to apply is October 10 till 6 pm.

UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Exam 2024: Vacancies

There are a total of 56 vacancies. In category 1 (posts in the Geological Survey of India, Ministry of Mines), there are 48 vacancies— Geologists, Group A (34 vacancies), Geophysicist, Group A (1 vacancy) and Chemist, Group A (13 vacancies).

In category 2 (Posts in the Central Ground Water Board, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation) there are 8 vacancies— Scientist ‘B’ (Hydrogeology), group A (4 vacancies); Scientist ‘B’ (Chemical) group A (2 vacancies) and Scientist ‘B’ (Geophysics) group A (2 vacancies).

UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Exam 2024: Important dates

The exam will be held in three parts— Preliminary, Main and Personality Test. The preliminary exam will be held on February 18, 2024 and the main exam will be held on June 22, 2024.

Candidates will be able to modify their one-time registration (OTR) profile only once on October 17, if they have to make any changes in their application form that could be done from October 11 to 17. “No change in the OTR profile can be made by visiting the window for modification in application form,” read the official notification.

Step 1: Visit the official website— upsc.gov.in

Step 2: Click on the link for Combined Geo-Scientist Exam 2024

Step 3: Once redirected to upsconline.nic.in click on new registration

Step 4: Enter your basic details such as name, date of birth, email address and more

Step 5: Once registered, login using your email id and password

Step 6: Fill the application form and upload the necessary documents

Step 7: Save, submit and pay the fees

Step 8: Download the application form for future reference

UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Exam 2024: Paper pattern

The preliminary exam will be objective type for 400 marks. There will be negative marking for wrong answers. The main exam will be ‘conventional’ type for 600 marks and personality test will be for 200 marks.

The application fee is Rs 200 but female, SC, ST, PwBD candidates are exempted from it.

UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Exam 2024: Age limt

The minimum age limit for candidates is 21 years and maximum is 32 years with relaxations in place as per government norms.

UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Exam 2024: Centres

The preliminary exam will be held across centres in 19 cities namely— Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cuttack, Delhi, Dispur, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Patna, Prayagraj (Allahabad), Shillong, Shimla and Thiruvananthapuram.

The main exam will be held across 9 cities namely— Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Dispur (Guwahati), Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Shimla.
