OnePlus rumoured to ditch ‘V Fold’ in favour of ‘Open’ for its upcoming foldable

With manufacturers like Oppo, Google, Samsung, Motorola and others upping the ante with their latest foldables, it looks like the form factor might finally become mainstream. Earlier this year at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023, OnePlus also teased its upcoming foldable with the company already trademarking the name ‘OnePlus V Fold’ and ‘OnePlus V Flip’ in China.

But according to a recent tweet shared by known tipster Max Jambor, it looks like OnePlus might ditch the naming scheme and instead call the upcoming devices ‘Open’.

Jambor also stated that OnePlus patented ‘Open’ a while ago along with a couple of names like Prime, Wing, Peak and Edge. Few days ago, another known tipster @OnLeaks speculated that the upcoming OnePlus foldable phone will have a 7.8-inch 120Hz AMOLED screen and will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. It will most likely run on OxygenOS 13 based on Android 13 which might be modified to make use of the big internal display.

Similar to the recently launched OnePlus 11, the phone will reportedly sport a circular camera island in the middle and retain the Hasselblad branding. While nothing is official at this point, rumour has it that we will see a triple camera setup that consists of a 48MP primary camera alongside a 48MP ultrawide lens and a 64MP telephoto lens which recently made its debut on the Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus.

The OnePlus Open might pack a 4,800mAh with 67W or 80W fast charging, which, if true, will make it a fast charging foldable device. Even though there is no official launch date, OnePlus has confirmed that the foldable phone will be launched sometime in the third quarter of 2023.
